Hey everyone! I just wanted to share this super simple and tasty recipe I make when I’m craving something hearty but don’t want to spend hours cooking. It’s got this creamy mustardy sauce that pairs SO well with the sausage and fresh basil. Hope you give it a try!
Ingredients:
Ingredients:
- 12 oz pasta (I like penne or rigatoni for this)
- 1 lb Italian sausage (hot or mild, your call)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard (you can adjust if you like it tangier)
- 1 tbsp whole-grain mustard (optional, but adds a nice texture)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves, roughly chopped
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil (just a drizzle for cooking)
- Cook the pasta in salted water until al dente. Save a cup of pasta water before draining!
- In a large skillet, heat a bit of olive oil and cook the sausage, breaking it into crumbles, until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, sauté garlic until fragrant (about 30 seconds). Then stir in the cream, Dijon mustard, and whole-grain mustard. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes.
- Add the cooked sausage back into the skillet and stir. If the sauce feels too thick, splash in a bit of the reserved pasta water.
- Toss in the pasta and mix well so it’s coated in that creamy goodness.
- Turn off the heat and stir in the Parmesan cheese and basil. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve immediately with extra Parmesan on top if you’re feeling fancy.
