Ingredients

Cake

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Filling

  • Assorted candies (e.g., M&Ms, sprinkles, mini chocolates)

Frosting

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Prepare the Cake Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract. Alternately add the flour mixture and buttermilk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Beat until just combined.
  3. Bake the Cakes: Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  4. Prepare the Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until smooth. Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, and beat until light and fluffy. If desired, tint the frosting with food coloring.
  5. Assemble the Cake: Once the cakes are completely cool, use a round cutter or a knife to cut a circle out of the center of two of the cake layers. These will be the middle layers of the cake. Place one whole cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place one of the cut-out layers on top and frost the top and inside of the hole. Repeat with the second cut-out layer. Fill the hole with the assorted candies. Place the final whole cake layer on top.
  6. Frost the Cake: Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting. Decorate as desired.
The combination of a moist, flavorful cake and the hidden candy center makes it a hit with both kids and adults. This cake is not only a treat for the taste buds but also a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved. Enjoy making and sharing this special cake with your loved ones! 🎉🍰
