Ingredients

  • For the Squid:
    • 1 cup dried shredded squid
    • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes, adjust to taste)
    • 1 tablespoon sugar (or honey)
    • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
    • 1 clove garlic (minced)
    • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
    • 1 green onion (finely chopped, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Squid:
    • If the dried squid is very hard, soak it in warm water for about 10-15 minutes to soften it slightly. Drain and squeeze out excess water.
  2. Make the Sauce:
    • In a bowl, mix together sesame oil, soy sauce, gochugaru, sugar, rice vinegar, and minced garlic until well combined.
  3. Combine:
    • In a large bowl, add the softened shredded squid and pour the sauce over it. Toss well to ensure the squid is evenly coated.
  4. Marinate:
    • Let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. For best results, refrigerate for a few hours or overnight.
  5. Serve:
    • Before serving, garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onion. Enjoy as a snack or as part of a banchan (Korean side dish).

Tips

  • You can adjust the sweetness and spiciness to your liking.
  • This dish pairs well with beer or as part of a Korean meal.
