Ingredients:

  • Canned Crushed Tomatoes: 1 can (28 oz)
  • Garlic: 2-3 cloves, minced
  • Olive Oil: 2 tablespoons
  • Salt and Pepper: to taste (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Garlic:
    • Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves.
  2. Cook the Garlic:
    • In a saucepan or skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add the minced garlic to the pan and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  3. Add the Tomatoes:
    • Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes into the pan with the garlic and olive oil.
    • Stir well to combine.
  4. Simmer the Sauce:
    • Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer over low to medium heat.
    • Let it simmer uncovered for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and the flavors meld together.
    • If you prefer a smoother consistency, you can use an immersion blender to blend the sauce directly in the pan.
  5. Season to Taste:
    • Once the sauce has simmered to your desired consistency, taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
  6. Serve or Store:
    • Use the sauce immediately over pasta, pizza, or any dish of your choice.
    • Alternatively, let the sauce cool completely before storing it in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week. This sauce also freezes well for longer storage.

Tips:

  • Enhance with Herbs: You can add dried herbs like oregano, basil, or red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
  • Onion Variation: If you like, you can sauté finely chopped onion along with the garlic for added depth.
  • Fresh Tomatoes: If you have fresh tomatoes on hand, you can substitute them for canned tomatoes; just blanch, peel, and crush them before adding to the sauce.
This three-ingredient tomato sauce is versatile and can be customized based on your preferences. Enjoy making this quick and tasty sauce for your favorite pasta dishes or pizzas!
