  • 2 pie crusts (homemade or store-bought)
  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Place one pie crust in the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly. Dot the top with pieces of butter.
  5. Place the second pie crust over the apples. You can either leave it whole or create a lattice pattern.
  6. Trim and crimp the edges of the pie crusts together to seal. Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar for a golden, crispy finish.
  7. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
  8. Place the pie on a baking sheet (to catch any drips) and bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  9. Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack before serving.
Enjoy your classic apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream!

Tried making this Classic Apple Pie, and let me tell you, the aroma alone was worth it... Had a blast peeling those apples, but watch out for those tricky crust edges—they're worth the extra effort though. Overall, a tasty endeavor.
