Ingredients
- Base Ingredients:
- 1 cup fruit juice (your choice: grape, orange, apple, etc.)
- 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 2 tablespoons gelatin powder (or 4 sheets of gelatin)
- Optional:
- 1-2 tablespoons lemon juice (for added tartness)
- Food coloring (if desired)
Instructions
- Prepare the Gelatin:
- If using gelatin powder, sprinkle it over 1/4 cup of cold fruit juice in a bowl and let it sit for about 5 minutes to bloom. If using gelatin sheets, soak them in cold water for about 5 minutes until softened, then drain.
- Heat the Juice:
- In a saucepan, combine the remaining fruit juice and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, but do not bring it to a boil.
- Combine Gelatin and Juice:
- Remove the saucepan from heat. Add the bloomed gelatin (or softened sheets) to the warm juice and stir until fully dissolved. If using, add lemon juice and food coloring.
- Pour into Molds:
- Pour the mixture into silicone molds or a small baking dish lined with parchment paper.
- Chill:
- Refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours, or until the jelly has set completely.
- Cut and Serve:
- If using a baking dish, cut the jelly into squares or desired shapes. If using molds, gently pop the jelly candies out.
- Optional Coating:
- For a sugar-coated finish, toss the jelly candies in granulated sugar before serving.
Tips
- Experiment with different fruit juices for unique flavors.
- Store the jelly candies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
