Honey Garlic Shrimp Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or any high-heat oil like canola or peanut oil)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 2 tablespoons water (if using cornstarch)
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or green onions (for garnish)
  • Cooked rice or noodles (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. If you want a thicker sauce, dissolve the cornstarch in the water and add it to the mixture. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Shrimp:
    • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Sauce:
    • In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed and then add the minced garlic.
    • Stir-fry the garlic for about 30 seconds, or until it becomes fragrant but not burnt.
    • Pour the honey sauce mixture into the skillet. If you used cornstarch, the sauce should start to thicken after a minute or so. Stir frequently.
  4. Combine Everything:
    • Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss them in the sauce, ensuring they are evenly coated.
    • Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to heat through and slightly caramelize on the shrimp.
  5. Finish and Serve:
    • Sprinkle with red pepper flakes if you like a bit of heat.
    • Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions.
    • Serve over cooked rice or noodles.
Enjoy your flavorful honey garlic shrimp! This dish pairs beautifully with steamed vegetables or a simple salad for a complete meal.
