Honey Garlic Shrimp Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or any high-heat oil like canola or peanut oil)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 2 tablespoons water (if using cornstarch)
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or green onions (for garnish)
- Cooked rice or noodles (for serving)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Sauce:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. If you want a thicker sauce, dissolve the cornstarch in the water and add it to the mixture. Set aside.
- Cook the Shrimp:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Sauce:
- In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed and then add the minced garlic.
- Stir-fry the garlic for about 30 seconds, or until it becomes fragrant but not burnt.
- Pour the honey sauce mixture into the skillet. If you used cornstarch, the sauce should start to thicken after a minute or so. Stir frequently.
- Combine Everything:
- Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss them in the sauce, ensuring they are evenly coated.
- Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to heat through and slightly caramelize on the shrimp.
- Finish and Serve:
- Sprinkle with red pepper flakes if you like a bit of heat.
- Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions.
- Serve over cooked rice or noodles.
