Ingredients:
Sauce:
Sauce:
- 1 tbsp Hoisin Sauce (or use Oyster Sauce as a sub)
- 2 tbsp Oyster Sauce (or sub with 1 ½ tbsp Hoisin)
- 1 tbsp Chinese cooking wine (or Mirin, dry sherry, sake, or any rice wine)
- 2 ½ tbsp dark soy sauce
- 2 tsp white sugar
- ½ tsp sesame oil
- ¼ tsp white pepper (or use black pepper as a sub)
- 1 tbsp oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 lb (500g) ground beef (lean works well)
- ½ cup sliced scallions (plus more for garnish)
- Sesame seeds
- Mix all the sauce ingredients together in a bowl.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, and cook for about a minute or until the onion starts to brown.
- Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up as you go.
- Once the beef is browned, pour in the sauce. Cook for another 2 minutes until the sauce has evaporated and the beef is fully cooked. If you like your beef a bit more cooked, you can add a splash of water and keep cooking, but I usually skip this step.
- Stir in the sliced scallions, then serve over rice, garnishing with extra scallions and sesame seeds if you like. For a low-carb option, serve over cauliflower rice.
