Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • One 12-ounce bag chocolate chips (2 cups)

Directions:

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Melt butter in a 10-inch cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, beaten eggs, and vanilla until smooth. Stir in melted butter.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda. Stir dry ingredients into wet until a homogenous dough forms. Avoid overmixing. Fold in chocolate chips.
  4. Bake: Scrape dough into prepared skillet, spreading to edges. Bake until top is cracked, edges are brown and crisp, and center is still soft, about 40 to 45 minutes.
  5. Cool and Serve: Cool on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Serve warm, cut into wedges.
Cook’s Note: Spoon flour into measuring cup and level off excess for accurate measurement. Avoid scooping directly from the bag to prevent dry baked goods.
