- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 Β½ cups milk (any kind you prefer)
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ΒΌ teaspoon nutmeg
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, making sure to remove any lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture begins to thicken.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the grated Parmesan cheese. Stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
- Season with nutmeg, salt, and black pepper to taste.
- If desired, stir in chopped fresh parsley for added color and flavor.
- Serve immediately over your favorite pasta.
