Here's a simple recipe for you to try:
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ to 2 pounds flank steak
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Chinese five spice powder
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, Chinese five spice powder, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. This will be your marinade.
- Place the flank steak in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it's evenly coated. If using a dish, cover it with plastic wrap. If using a bag, seal it tightly. Allow the steak to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Remove the marinated steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- Remove the steak from the marinade and discard any excess marinade.
- Place the steak on the preheated grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer your steak more well-done.
- Once cooked to your desired level of doneness, remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for about 5 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
- After resting, slice the flank steak thinly against the grain. This helps ensure tenderness.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired, and serve hot.
