Grilled Five Spice Flank Steak is a delicious and flavorful dish that combines the unique aroma of five spice powder with the tenderness of flank steak. It's close to my heart, because my grandma used to cook when she was still alive :(

Here's a simple recipe for you to try:

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ to 2 pounds flank steak
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese five spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, Chinese five spice powder, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. This will be your marinade.
  2. Place the flank steak in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it's evenly coated. If using a dish, cover it with plastic wrap. If using a bag, seal it tightly. Allow the steak to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
  3. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  4. Remove the marinated steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  5. Remove the steak from the marinade and discard any excess marinade.
  6. Place the steak on the preheated grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer your steak more well-done.
  7. Once cooked to your desired level of doneness, remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for about 5 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
  8. After resting, slice the flank steak thinly against the grain. This helps ensure tenderness.
  9. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired, and serve hot.
