- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- Zest of 1 orange
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thickening)
- Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish (optional)
- In a bowl, season chicken pieces with salt and pepper, then toss them in cornstarch until well coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken pieces until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed, then sauté minced garlic and ginger until fragrant.
- Stir in orange juice, soy sauce, honey, orange zest, and rice vinegar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook until the sauce has thickened, about 1-2 minutes.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss until evenly coated in the sauce.
- Serve the orange chicken hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
